This set of six painted armchairs from about 1880 are stenciled "GAR" for the "Grand Army of the Republic," the Civil War northern veteran's organization.
These chair were used in a GAR lodge, and have lots of mars and wear. The reeded or split rush seats have various losses as shown in photos. Original pinstriping is picturesque.
Large comfortable frames are strong and very usable on this American made antique furniture.
Size is 24" wide, 24" deep, 37" tall and seats are 19" high.
