Victorian Antique Silverplate Candlewick Trimmer

This nostalgic antique candlewick trimmer was used to snip candlewicks to keep them from smoking, and rests on a hand engraved tray.

Dating from about 1890, this was a necessity in a well run Victorian household. The unsigned silver plate set is probably English or American. We assume the hallmark or signature was polished off when the set was replated fairly recently - it shows no wear to the bright finish.

The richly embellished tray is 10" long and 4 1/2" wide, the trimmer is almost 8" long and has a compartment to collect the burnt wicks.
