This is the finest American Empire banquet table we have ever seen. Hand-made of solid mahogany about 1820, we were told it was made in New York state.
Acanthus carved legs are beautiful, and the "D" shaped console ends have original hand painting on the center panels - see photos. Attached with square nails, the brass rims and also the feet appear original. Carved wooden hinges operate the gate legs on the center section. The rich, deep finish is in excellent condition. Tops are all cut from single planks of figured mahogany two feet wide.
Very sturdy and usable antique furniture, the design is flexible for different size groups. Height of all pieces is 29" with almost 24" of legroom underneath. The console ends are 2' x 4.' Size of the center dropleaf section is 4' wide, 25" long with both gate legs down and 74" long with both raised.
All three pieces are beautiful on their own, and can also be connected with brass "forks," forming a historic banquet table 10'2" long.
