This 1895 era sculpture of the Greek God "Apollon" or Apollo is signed by famous French sculptor, "Emile Bruchon," and is mounted as a newel post lamp.
Cast of spelter metal, the alloy is similar to pewter or white metal. The statue has wonderful antique patina - a lovely worn bronze toned finish with hand painted leaves around the brass light sockets.
There is a brass signature plate on the base. On the back is a switch, and in the base are three balls where the lamp was originally mounted to a newel post to cast light on a staircase.
Bruchon was a noted artist of "The Belle Epoque" and exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1880, which launched his career. His statues were characterized by fluid lines, and his figures are almost weightless. Apollo carries his signature lyre shaped harp, one prong is missing, see photos.
Measurements of this lovely work of art are 11" across and 24" tall.
