Hand made about 1880 for a farmhouse in Holland, this dining table could also serve as a writing desk or library table. Almost ridiculously heavy weight and overbuilt of solid oak, small elephants could dance on top.
There are removable pegs and wedges in mortised joints for disassembling. The base has been waxed and polished, the original finish is very well preserved and needs only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth to maintain its antique patina.
The top has been revarnished for durability and stain resistance. Under the 2 1/2" thick top are dovetailed crosspieces to keep the top aligned.
Antique furniture from the Netherlands, this table descended in a single family. Size is 71" long, 37" wide, 30 1/2" tall and legroom is 28" underneath.
