A late Georgian secretary desk is from the Federal period, about the 1790's. Hand crafted of richly figured solid walnut, the gleaming finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique furniture. The case is joined with hand cut dovetails at the top corners.
Graduated drawers have hand cut dovetail joints, the uppermost drawer has a replaced bottom. Heavy weight brass pulls are old but not original.
The drop front has a working lock and rests on pull out supports. Inside is a locking door with three tiny drawers behind, there are old India ink stains as well.
Square cut nails are visible on the back, which has hand planing marks. There is a repaired shrinkage separation between the planks of the left side, see photos. Long ago, there was restoration to the base as well.
Measurements are 42" wide, 22" deep and 42" tall, the desktop is 31" high.
