A magnificently hand carved Italian tall case or grandfather clock from about 1890 has griffins and richly detailed moldings, the brass movement keeps excellent time.
Signed "Ferdo (Fernando) Barbani, Firenze (Florence)" on the dial, the artful solid walnut antique case is sculpted in high relief and has the original finish in exceptional condition. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina.
Hand painted, the porcelain dial has significant dings and later touchup, see photos. The brass movement has been oiled and is wound by pulling chains, of the same era but not original to this antique clock.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
Measurements of this historic and palatial furniture are 26" wide, 15" deep and 7' 8 1/2" tall.
