This style of Italian made armchair was named after the fiery monk of Florence, famous for the "Bonfire of Vanities" in the early Renaissance.
Hand carved of solid fruitwood about 1890, the inlaid marquetry has remarkable detail on this Italian antique furniture. There is a design of one of the famous family towers in Tuscany on the back, the taller the more prestigious.
The original finish is very well preserved, and has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Originally a folding chair, screws now hold it securely in position. There are various losses over the years.
Size is 28" wide, 21" deep and 39" tall, seat height is 19".
