This charming statue depicts Lulli tuning his violin as a young performer. He was born into poverty in Florence, and at his feet is a kettle and cabbage. His birth date was in 1632 as Giovanni Battista Lulli, he became a talented violinist and dancer - later a noted composer. Discovered and brought to France, he became Jean Baptiste de Lully, the czar of music under Louis XIV.
Composer of music for the Royal Ballet, scores to accompany the plays of Moliere and numerous operas for the King of France, he died in 1687.
This statue is spelter, similar to pewter, and has its original patina with just enough wear for a little character. We see no damage to this Victorian sculpture from about 1895. A naturalistic work of art, height is 20" tall.
