This Victorian era shadowbox houses a traditional hair wreath, a hand crafted memento of locks of hair, delicately worked into an arrangement with glass beads. In the 19th Century, locks of hair from family and loved ones were sentimental keepsakes, kept in lockets and "wreaths" like this.
The grain painted frame has an original finish in remarkably fine condition with a framer's label from Watertown, Wis. on the back. We have not opened the box to clean the interior, wavy glass is original. There are small mars and touchups, see photos.
A charming example of nostalgic handicraft work, this American antique dates from the 1860's. Measurements are 10" tall, 8" wide and 2 1/2" deep.
This piece can be shipped with insurance, USPS within the Continental US for $20.00.
