Chess Game Table, 1890's Antique Black Forest Marquetry
A wonderful example of "Black Forest" craftsmanship from the Alpine foothills of Germany, Italy and Switzerland, this chess game table has a tilting mechanism.
Birch with hand crafted inlaid marquetry of walnut, burl, mahogany and other species, the satiny finish is in excellent condition. There are small shrinkage separations for age for character and the top has a warp, see photos. The base is strong and tight, there is a warp to the top as shown.
The top locks securely in the flat position on this European antique furniture. Size is 30 1/2" diameter and 29" tall.
