Scandinavian Hand Painted Folk Art Pine 1800 Antique Dowry Trunk Blanket Chest

A wonderful folk art dowry chest or blanket trunk was hand painted in Scandinavia around 1800, but there is an indistinct date of "13(?)64" on the front.

Hand hewn wormy pine has original folk art painting on the front, the top painting is mostly worn away. Lots of dings, stains and losses for antique character have been preserved with a fine clear varnish finish.

Corners have hand cut dovetail joints and hand planing marks are everywhere on this historic European furniture. Inside is a small compartment for valuables. The lock is missing and bun feet are replacements, there are modern screws on the backside.

Measurements are 5' long, 25" wide and 28" tall.
