Hand hewn of wormy solid oak in the middle 1700's in France, this dowry trunk or blanket chest shows its age gracefully. Built to hold a young woman's dowry including linens and pewter, it would have held a place of pride in her home after marriage.
There are lots of losses, dings and shrinkage separations from age for antique character. Carved square pegs and cut nails are visible on this historic European furniture.
The old finish has wonderful patina, waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain its luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There is no key. Raised front panels have hand carved traditional motifs.
Size is 69" wide, 25" deep and 26" tall.
