Crafted entirely by hand about 1790 in the Alsace region of eastern France, this solid oak armoire has exquisite detailing.
The old finish is very well preserved with warm antique patina. Every hand hewn surface proves the artistry of a country carpenter. All panels are raised, joints have wooden pegs. The huge lock and key still operate, an interior latch releases the left door. Doors have lift off hinges and this historic furniture can be disassembled for moving. Hand cut dovetail joinery is visible on the back side of this wonderful piece.
Interior depth is 19 1/2," the removable pine shelves are old but not original. Size of this sophisticated provincial armoire is 68" wide, 25" deep and 6' 4" tall.
