English Clase of Bridgenorth Tall Case Grandfather 1800 Antique Clock

Signed "Thomas Clase of Bridgenorth," this 1800 era Georgian period grandfather or tall case clock still keeps excellent time.

The case is mahogany and oak with inlaid banding and shell motif marquetry medallions. A fine old finish has warm antique patina and has been waxed and buffed. There are shrinkage separations from age for character, see photos.

The iron dial has original hand painting, including a young lady who looks like Jane Austen, with age appropriate wear. Engraved brass hour and minute hands appear original.

Bridgenorth town was created in 1101 AD, west of Birmingham on the River Severn. The castle is now in ruins, and there is a famous funicular railroad connecting the high and low town across the river.

Clock dimensions are 22" wide at the crown, 10" deep and 7' 5" tall to the top of the graceful pediment.

This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
