Authentic country French or provincial furniture from about 1790, this historic armoire is solid oak, and delicately carved with traditional artistic curving motifs.
There are repairs and losses as would be expected on a true antique of this age, every plank is hand hewn and planed. The floor, drawers and parts of the back show some rebuilding, probably a century ago. Warm and satiny, the golden brown finish is excellent with glowing patina. Doors and crown lift off to facilitate moving. Corners are secured with hand-carved wooden pegs. A later iron key operates the lock, which appears original along with the wrought iron hardware.
The interior is empty, and could be fitted with a closet pole or shelves as desired. This rugged and usable antique furniture measures 5'5" wide, 24" deep and 5'6" tall.
