A rustic hand painted pine tall case or "grandfather" farmhouse clock hand crafted in southern France dates from about 1875. This style of movement is called a "Morbier" and strikes a bell on the half hour, it is a double ringer on the hour, it strikes the hour again a few minutes later in case you are not paying attention the first time.
Our clockmaker has cleaned and oiled the 8 day mechanism, which is in fine working order and keeps excellent time. The porcelain dial is signed by the maker and has the town as well, but is unfortunately indecipherable, see photo. Richly embossed brass with flowers and cornucopia, the surround and large pendulum have artistic original hand painting.
The hand made pine "pot belly" shaped case still has its original hand grained and painted finish that is well worn with lots of character - flaking paint and shrinkage separations from age. This charming and rustic antique clock measures 20" wide, 10" deep and just over 7' 6" tall.
