The movement of this 1915 era tall case or grandfather clock is signed by famous German maker, "Gustave Becker." Ebony spiral columns and deeply carved oak moldings recall a traditional Dutch "Kas" or dowry cabinet.
Entirely original, the case has an extremely well preserved finish with minor mars at the edges and warm antique patina. Hand dovetailed joints are visible on the backside, the cabinet rests on substantial bun feet. Beveled glass in both doors is original. Brass hands, pendulum and weights all show exquisite workmanship.
There are small scratches on the brushed silvery dial, see photos. The brass movement keeps excellent time and is chain wound. A two note strike sounds on the half and hour, there is a pull cord to correct the strike if needed. It keeps running for about 6 days before needing to be wound again.
Beautiful furniture from Europe, dimensions of this imposing clock are 32" wide, 21" deep and just over 81" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
