Said to be from Connecticut, a 1790 era New England tall case clock still has its original but incomplete wooden works included, and now keeps time with a modern quartz battery movement, that is easily removable.
If the authentic movement with oak plates and cherry gears was to be restored, it could be returned to the case without any damage. The solid walnut case has a very fine old finish with warm antique patina plus some crazing or crackling from age.
Old wavy glass in the door protects the hand painted wooden dial, which appears original. Hand cut nails and old hand planing marks are charming on this clean lined "Yankee" furniture.
Measurements are 18" wide, 12" deep and 80" tall.
