An exceptional quality solid quarter-sawn oak "S" curve roll top desk is signed "Andrews, Chicago." Raised panels on all sides are beautiful. This stellar American antique furniture is from about 1900.
The golden finish is superb, with just enough wear to give a nice patina to this iconic desk. Cast brass hardware is original, deep drawers have dovetailed sides, and there are mail slots at both ends. The locking mechanism appears incomplete, and the roll operates smoothly.
New brown genuine leather has been installed in the top and both pull out writing shelves, notice the rich natural grain and shaded chestnut color with charming color variation -see photos.
Inside are small compartments and drawers. This antique furniture is truly as fine as it comes. Measurements are 5 1/2' long, 40" deep, 47" tall, the leather top is 30" above the floor, and the kneehole is 30" wide and 24 3/4" high.
