Hand carved of chestnut, this 4 door armoire or wardrobe has carved panels depicting a couple with folk musical instruments wearing traditional costumes. Brittany or Bretagne is a maritime province of northwest France. Formerly a separate country, the "Breton" language is still spoken.
Famous for their cultural traditions and distinctive dress, the local hand-carved furniture has outstanding workmanship, using native local hardwoods with picturesque traditional motifs. The finish is excellent on this heirloom furniture, which traditionally descended with the daughters of a family, as part of their dowry.
About 65 years old, this vintage armoire has adjustable shelves and disassembles if needed for delivery. Size is 6'3" wide, 24" deep and 5'10" tall.
