A spectacular Renaissance style "Cabinet of Curiosities," or display cabinet for a collector was hand crafted in Italy around 1870. The ebonized finish background has genuine ivory inlay with engraved cherubs and classical figures. Shelves adjust on wooden supports.
Inlaid marquetry includes tortoise shell and semi-precious lapis lazuli, with some cracked or replaced pieces, see photos. The restored matte finish is in very fine condition, preserving various losses and restorations over the last century and a half.
Original locks have brass "mouth" keyhole covers and working keys on this antique furniture. There are warps from age, especially in the left column and lower right door as shown. The case has hand cut dovetail joints and square cut nails.
Measurements are 54" wide tip to tip, 20" deep and 78" tall.
