Designed by Viscount David Linley, a nephew of Queen Elizabeth, this exquisite jewel chest in the form of a castle was created for the famous Alfred Dunhill shop of London about ten years ago.
Superior workmanship and hand rubbed finishing are luxurious on this box from England by the famed royal designer.
Never used, the original signed padded presentation case with wooden base is included. The heavy weight walnut model of a castle is inlaid with marquetry in elm, yew and burl. Gold plated mounts include a lock and key. The center "secret" drawer is opened with a gentle push. Under the lid and inside the pull out staircase are lift out padded velvet jewelry trays. The beveled mirror is engraved " David Linley for Alfred Dunhill, 2 of 10."
Drawer sides and interior mounts are English white oak with tiny hand cut dovetail joinery. Two of the castle turret finials have losses, see photos. The original price was said to be over $14,000 for this limited edition treasure of only ten ever made. Measurements are 12" wide, 14" deep and 18" tall.
