The marks of laborious hand-carving are visible on this country bread bowl or proofing trough, hand hewn from a single maple log. There is lots of patina - stains and mars on this American primitive antique from about 1880. There are holes where a crack once was repaired with staples, it is now securely glued.
This was used to hold bread dough for rising and kneading. Size of this charming nostalgic Americana is 48" long, 17" wide and 7" tall.
