A mid 1800's country pine immigrant chest or trunk is hand-dovetailed, and would make a marvelous rustic coffee table. This design was also called a "six board blanket chest" because of construction using six wide pine planks. Every surface is hand planed, and square nails are hand cut.
Hinges are hand-wrought iron, and inside is a little compartment for keepsakes. On the underside of the top, the skilled country carpenter has dovetailed two cross pieces into the top to prevent splitting or warping.
There is loads of character, mars and wear, and a wonderful golden patina - the finish is in good condition.
This charming antique furniture accompanied an immigrant to America, and measurements are 37" long, 17" deep and 19" tall.
