A marvelous example of a Victorian period "ship captain's" or Davenport desk from England, this 1870's secretary makes remarkably efficient use of space. Richly figured mahogany wood has an excellent finish, preserving lots of mars and dings for antique character.
The writing surface is natural saddle leather. Underneath, the storage area is lined with golden curly or birdseye maple, with a few authentic ink stains.
On the left are faux drawer fronts, real drawers on the right have hand cut dovetail joints and original wooden knobs. Above is a wonderful little hinged drawer with compartments for ink bottles and pens.
Size is 24" wide, 22" deep, 33 1/2" tall at the back including the gallery for books, the front is 29 1/2" high.
