An American Empire period 1830's bookcase has beautiful lines and carved lion paw feet. Antique wavy glass panes are charming, the lock does not work and the key is a handle only. The right door has an original brass rim.
The finish is in very fine condition on mahogany with just enough mars and dings for antique character. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and the ring pulls appear original.
The back of this historic furniture shows hand planing marks.
For easier moving, the upper section is removable. Bookshelves originally slid in from the back side and some were angled for unknown reasons, they are now supported by wooden bars. Screws can be relocated to change shelf placement.
Size of this stately bookcase is 5' 6 1/2" wide, 23" deep and 7' 6 1/2" tall.
