An authentic hammer dulcimer musical instrument has an Empire period console table case. The case is strong and sturdy, and has had numerous repairs and touchups over the years. The matched mahogany with inlaid banding is especially beautiful.
The glowing finish has warm patina and there are various mars especially at the edges, see photos. Hand-made in the eastern U.S. about 1840, this appears to be playable, although we do not know how to tune or play a dulcimer.
There are two small hammers, and when the inside lid is lifted off, there are hand-written signatures that are difficult to decipher. Dimensions of this antique musical furniture are 40" wide, 19" deep and 36" tall.
