Hand crafted about 1850 of solid mahogany, this unusual desk has a drop front with saddle leather panels inside. Under the hinged natural leather panels are storage space and cubbyholes for papers.
The finish is very fine with warm antique patina and loads of character - mars and wear, see photos. Drawers all have tiny hand cut dovetails, also square nails are visible, both characteristic of English cabinetry of the era. There are no keys for the locks.
When the front is flipped open, there are three tiny drawers inside, the center one has pen rests and holes for pen points. The rounded corners without overhangs resembles traditional British military campaign furniture. Lower panels on the back sides are replacements.
Dimensions are 35" wide, 19" deep, 36" tall and the writing area is 30 1/2" high.
