This authentic New England Sheraton period cherry gateleg dropleaf dining table dates from about 1830, and previous owners said it came from Connecticut.
Top and drop leaves are single wide boards of solid cherry. The classic lines and subtle proportions are beautiful. This table would work well as a sofa table, buffet or computer desk.
Warm cherry hardwood has an excellent finish with glowing antique patina and only minor mars at the edges, see photos. Strong and sturdy, the frame has pegged construction and hand planing marks. Carved wooden hinges support the gatelegs. The top is undercut on the bottom sides to control warping.
Size of this American antique when closed is 23" wide, 52" long and almost 30" tall, legroom on the ends is 24" high. With both dropleaves raised, the top is 52" x 63 1/2" total.
