An authentic partner's desk is quarter sawn oak from about 1890. The elegant design recalls the "Aesthetic Movement" artistry of architect Louis Sullivan. The original hardware is cast bronze with worn silver plating, locks are operational.
Each "partner" has a compartment with a curved door, inside are tiny cubby holes and drawers. The only difference between the sides is that the center drawer on one side has carving of the period, the other side is plain. The curving doors are laminated like a grand piano, everything else is solid quarter sawn oak with an excellent satiny finish.
This is extraordinary American antique furniture from a remarkable period of design, found in Chicago, where Sullivan's best work is still to be seen.
Unfortunately unsigned by its maker, measurements are 58" long, 36" deep and 29 1/2" tall. The knee hole is 23" tall and 19 1/2" wide.
