This magnificent marble clad bar or counter was made for a Paris candy store, the cash drawer has a coded release and bell alarm. The marble is in very fine condition with a repair to the left fluted front corner pilaster and a few chips at the edges, mainly along the bottom corners, see photos.
A complicated nickel over brass handle has a finger coded release, plus a wind-up alarm bell that sounds if someone tries to open the drawer without knowing the code. This remarkable mechanism is signed by the French maker "Serrure, 52 Rue Folie Mericourt, Paris."
The framework is birch hardwood with pegged construction. Some of the nickel buttons over screws securing the slabs of marble are replacements and there are slight caramel colored stains in the top.
Dating from about 1895, this magnificent antique furniture measures 5' 11" long, 24" deep and 37 1/2" tall.
