Signed "G. Saulo, Le Reveil" or Awakening, this wonderful bronze bust of a young woman stretching as she awakens from sleep is beautiful, and dates from around 1900.
The prominent sculptor, Georges Ernest Saulo (1865-1945) was born and died in Anger, but worked in Paris, where he was awarded the "Medaille (Medal) Salon des Beaux-Arts." He was famed for naturalistic works of art like this marvelous bronze.
The base is carved of the famous French Rouge marble. There is minor wear in spots to the original patinated finish. On the back is a signature in script by the artist and a Paris foundry stamp.
Measurements of this lovely statue are 22" across, 12" deep and 17" tall.
