Hand carved of walnut about 1870, a grand Victorian desk has beautiful octagonal legs. The finish is excellent with glowing warm patina, there are just enough mars at the edges for a little antique character.
Deep drawers have hand dovetailed joints and maple sides. Keys are handles only, locks do not work on this historic furniture. English style workmanship suggests a British origin, but this imposing desk could have been made in America by a cabinetmaker trained in England.
Measurements are 63" long, 35" deep, 32 1/2" tall and the kneehole is 24" wide and 26 1/2" high. Made for a tall person, the original iron wheels could be removed to lower the desk about 1 1/2" if desired.
