A spectacular late Victorian or Eastlake period bedroom set from about 1875 includes a tall carved bed that fits a queen size mattress as shown, and a marble top chest or dresser with swivel mirror.
Charming bee, crane and floral motifs are hand carved in solid walnut with burl panels. This American made furniture is richly detailed with incised chip or spoon carving.
The bed has been expertly adapted to fit a standard modern queen size mattress and spring unit, 20" thick together as shown, and has been revarnished because of the alterations. Wood slats to support bedding are included.
Size is 87" long, 69" wide, the head board is 88" tall and the footboard is 37" high.
The grand dresser has roll top jewelry boxes. Marble tops have been polished and sealed to resist stains. Drawers have original brass pulls and pin and cove or round dovetail joints of the era. Keys in the tiny drawers are handles only, the locks do not work. A swivel plate glass mirror has a wide bevel and a hint of antique smoke to show its age. The finish is original and very well preserved with just enough character - wear and mars, see photos. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina.
Size is 48 1/2" wide, 22" deep and 87" tall.
