A Victorian Renaissance newel post light from around 1880 has a cranberry hobnail shade. The statue of a cavalier wearing his family crest supports a font with ram heads.
The electrified candelabra base socket and cord with a switch replaces original kerosene or gas fittings. Age of the undamaged hand made shade is impossible to determine.
The richly detailed sculpture is white or pot metal alloy, similar to pewter, with an original bronze patina. Although structurally sound, there is damage to his legs, see photos. There are screws on the base which originally mounted to a newel post to lighting a staircase.
This American made antique lamp could be wired directly to a newel post. The shade is 9" diameter and overall height is 39."
