Solid walnut with a roll top, this Victorian cabinet was used in a railroad station to hold train tickets or "coupons" folded over wooden bars. Dating from about 1885, there is a signature plate engraved, "Simon's Improved Patent Coupon Case, J. M. W. Jones Agent, 104 Madison St., Chicago."
The old finish on solid walnut is very fine with warm antique patina, there are decorative blocks of burl. Square nailheads are visible and the rolltop slides smoothly.
This American train depot furniture could also be useful for greeting cards or decorative papers. The wooden rack inside is removable.
Dimensions are 32" wide, 15" deep and 61 1/2" tall, the inside usable space is 3 1/2" deep.
