Hand carved of solid oak about 1890, this sideboard or server with china cabinet has a leaded wavy glass door. Part of a girl's dowry in the Black Forest area, where Germany, France and Switzerland meet, this grand cupboard would have held her linens, pewter and silver.
Artistic deeply sculpted carving includes angel and lion heads.
The top of the base has been revarnished for durability, the rest of the original finish is in very fine condition, preserving a few shrinkage separations for a little antique character. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain the warm luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Door locks work, the drawer has hand cut dovetail joints. The upper cabinet is removable for easier delivery.
Size is 39" wide tip to tip, 19" deep and 83 1/2" tall.
