Handcrafted in Germany around 1760, this hall or linen chest or dresser is very well preserved. Walnut with inlaid satinwood and mahogany banding and burl panels, the finish is in excellent condition, preserving stains, losses and shrinkage separations for antique character.
Every surface is hand planed, there are warps, shrinkage and uneven spots from age. Deep drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms. Carved wooden pegs and hand cut nails are visible.
Large iron locks still work on this historic European furniture. Embossed brasses appear original. The base was rebuilt perhaps a century ago.
Measurements are 48" wide, 25" deep and 31 1/2" tall.
