An authentic American Empire period sideboard or server from about 1820 has survived in exceptional condition. Mahogany with matched flame grain panels and shaped columns, the satiny finish is excellent.
Said to be from New York state, the brass embossed pulls and column mounts appear original. Drawers have beautiful tiny hand cut dovetails and chamfered bottoms. The detailed hand carved lion paw feet are typical of the finest East Coast furniture of the period.
Brass and rosewood inlaid banding is understated. Door locks operate, the key in the small center silver drawer is a handle only, the lock does not work. This sophisticated antique has minor warps and restorations. The backsplash has "chimney pot" columnar ends.
There is a small loss to the acanthus leaf above the right paw foot, see photos. Square hand cut nail-heads and hand planing marks are visible on this outstanding example of a vanished age of elegance.
Measurements are 63" wide, 24" deep, 57 1/2" tall and the top is 45" high.
