This masterful Art Deco carving in solid oak depicts angels - it was probably an altar surround, and could see another life as a fireplace mantel, large TV stand or bookshelves.
Outstanding hand-carving by skilled artists, this Gothic center cabinet, has a bronze door that would probably need a locksmith to open. The original finish was a warm medium brown, much of the surface has later been pickled or washed in a lighter stain.
Many configurations are suggested - the middle section could be raised or lowered for various uses, the center cabinet could be cut out and used above or below, shelves could be added above or below. Doors could be added below to make a cupboard.
As shown, dimensions are 9 1/2' wide, 6'1" tall and 28" deep. The side pieces with angel sculptures are each 14" wide and 6'1" tall. The long center section is 7' wide including the Gothic cabinet in the center and carved niches right and left, there is 41" underneath. Dimensions of the elaborate center compartment itself are 25" wide, 28" deep and 40" tall. Dating from the 1930's, this is a remarkable architectural opportunity.
