This naturalistic sculpture of "Fanueuse" or a Haymaker is signed by famous French artist, "Aug(ust) Moreau." An authentic antique work of art dating from the 1890's, this beautiful young woman is presented in motion, unselfconscious, as she gathers hay, fanning it out to dry.
Thirty-eight inches tall, this evocative statue is patinated spelter, a pewter-like alloy with picturesque historic charm. On the base is a brass name plate, there is also an engraved signature of Moreau in the statue itself.
August Moreau (1834-1917) was very famous as a sculptor during the Art Nouveau period around 1900. His life-like and natural work won honors and many admirers in France and around the world.
We have carefully inspected this beautiful figure, and we see a tiny crack and another that looks like an old repair, see photos. Width of this expressive statue is 22," and it is almost 38" tall.
