This statue captures the "Shooter" just before he throws the ball in a game of "Boules" or "balls" in France, known also as Petanque in the South of France, Bocce in Italy, and similar to lawn bowls in England.
The sculpture was cast about 1890. The embroidery on his vest is detailed, and he in concentrated on his aim.
Spelter or white metal is a pewter like metal alloy, the original finish is a chocolate bronze with some wear at the edges for antique character. The wooden base is hand painted in a faux red marble finish.
A brass signature plate is engraved "Joueur de Boules - Tireur" on this work of art from France. The base is 9" diameter and height is 22."
