This American Empire secretary desk dates from the first American Centennial in the 1870's, and has tapered columns and hand-carved paw feet.
Mahogany with vivid matched grain, this antique furniture has superior craftsmanship. On top, there are exposed hand-cut dovetails joining the top and side boards. The dropfront opens onto sturdy pull-out wooden supports, and inside are tiny drawers and compartments.
The deep toned finish is beautiful, and lower graduated drawers have chamfered bottoms and hand-cut dovetails.
"Centennial" furniture was replicated from designs popular at the time of our nation's birth, and reflected an interest in the history of that period.
Classic and very functional, this desk measures 31" wide, 20" deep, 48 1/2" tall and the top of the writing surface is 29" above the floor.
