An authentic Country French tall case or grandfather clock from around 1830 has a wonderfully detailed hand carved oak case, and the porcelain dial is signed by the maker, "Legrand a (of) Fauville." Fauville is a village in Normandy, northwest of Paris.
The "Morbier" design movement has been professionally cleaned and keeps accurate time. The brass 8 day movement keeps accurate time, striking the hour on a bell. Embossed on the brass dial surround are two small children or cherubs holding hand and carrying traditional symbols of medicine and industry, presumably the family occupations. One ferrule ring on the right winding shaft is missing, see photos. The traditional tall and tapered case has exquisite detailing with carved wooden pegs at the joints plus a few shrinkage separations from age for antique character.
Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm luster. Brass handles and lift off hinges are original, the winding crank is modern.
Size of this historic furniture from a country estate is 21" wide, 12" deep and 7' 6" tall.
