A wonderful Country French chestnut sideboard, buffet or "vaisseller" dates from the late 1700's. Hand carved, the frame is secured with wooden pegs, every surface is hand-planed. The finish is very warm, and this cabinet is structurally sound and very usable furniture.
There are shrinkage separations due to age, minor stains and wear, but this simple yet elegant antique is in remarkable condition for its age.
The true age of this historic piece is especially evident on the back side, which has never been restored. See photos. Drawers have hand-cut dovetails and chamfered bottoms. The large iron lock in the lower door appears original.
Measurements of this understated furniture are 52" wide, 39" high and 24" deep.
