Signed "Dobbins of Leeds," this grand and historic tall case or grandfather clock dates from the later Georgian period about 1800.
The hand painted iron dial depicts King David playing the harp in an ermine lined robe. Hand engraved brass minute and hour hands are beautiful and appear original. The brass eight day movement keeps excellent time and strikes the hour on a bell, it has been professionally cleaned, oiled and adjusted. Second and calendar hands both work.
The case is mahogany and fine grained oak, the old finish is in very good condition with warm antique patina. Waxed and polished, it needs only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth to maintain its antique luster. There are small losses, shrinkage separations and uneven surfaces as would be expected. Inlaid palisander, ebony and fruitwood banding is subtle.
Door glass is old and wavy. The winding crank is later on this imposing and majestic furniture from a country house near Leeds in the north of England.
Size is 24" wide, 10" deep and 7' 8" tall to the top of the brass finial.
