A gorgeous tall chest of drawers or dresser is a transitional antique between the Sheraton and Empire designs, dating from the 1830's.
Glowing warm patina and hand carved acanthus leaves atop spiral columns are outstanding. Entirely hand-made, drawers have hand-cut dovetails and chamfered bottoms. Square nails and hand-plane marks are visible. There are some warps, including the front right leg, see photos.
The gleaming finish is very good with only minor wear, accentuating the matched flame grain, there are shaded variations in the drawerfronts. On the top are a couple of expertly hand-carved plugs, plus there is a repair to one "ear" of the backsplash. Beautiful brasses are appropriate design, but only about 75 or 100 years old.
Measurements of this historic east coast American antique furniture are 45" wide, 20" deep and 53" tall.
