Hand carved in England about 1870, this adjustable bookstand or pedestal has a tilt top. Solid mahogany is inlaid with ebony stringing.
The finish is in excellent condition, preserving a few mars and stains for antique character. The brass mechanism adjusts height, a latch secures the top flat or upright. Another brass slot on the side once held a candleholder, now missing.
This charming antique furniture measures 19" x 14" at the top, height when flat adjusts from 29" to 42" tall.
