An English water clock actually keeps time for over two days with a single fill of water, and is engraved, "John Wilshaw, Anno Domini 1659, Use Well Your Hours."
This antique timepiece appears to be a later replica from the early to mid 1800's. Carved of oak, brass mounts are hand engraved with a knight in armor wearing a crown and armor on the water tank below.
The copper vessel inside is filled with water and has a float that sinks slowly, moving the single hour hand of the clock. Its accuracy is variable.
The deep old finish is very well preserved on the oak case, which has shrinkage separations from age. The brass and copper water font is removable to empty.
Measurements are 11" wide, 36" tall and 6" deep.
